Great PFD - not only for fishing. I photograph from my kayak and all the pockets make it easy to hold extra batteries, filters, cleaning equipment, etc. The coil-retractor is a great tool to hold a keychain-style microfiber cloth to wipe off the lens. I mount a Peak Designs camera clip to the knife lash tab and it can easily hold a micro four-thirds camera with a zoom lens. No interference at all when paddling.
Besides its versatility, the Chinook is a very comfortable vest to wear and its high back panel makes paddling with a high seat much easier.
As we all know it’s important to wear your PFD. As a fisherman it’s hard to find a comfortable one to wear while you fish. This one was built by Yak fisherman for Yak fisherman. It’s actually so comfortable I have left my kayak and went exploring and forgot I had it on. Down here in south Alabama it gets hot in the summer so another great feature is that it don’t get too hot like others I have used. You definitely can’t go wrong with this life jacket.
I really love my NRS Chinook life jacket. I fish from a kayak with a lawn chair style seat and the high back of the Chinook makes it comfortable to be on the water for many hours. Its not inexpensive but you can definitely feel the quality. I believe it will last for many many seasons. You really do get what you pay for. I also appreciate all the cargo pockets for my fly fishing gear. If you are shopping for a new PFD, especially for kayaking, make sure to add this one to your list.
