Orca Camp - Kayak in Killer Whale Territory

Canada is known for its large killer whale population. This summertime base camp on Vancouver Island next to the Robson Bight Ecological Reserve (a killer whale sanctuary and home of the famous Orca Rubbing Beaches) is an ideal location to find them.

Whether you are up early watching for orcas from the beach or heading out for a paddle, time at Orca Camp provides a true wilderness escape.

Your trip begins with an exciting water-taxi ride to camp. Each day you will jump in kayaks to seek out wildlife including whales, bears, sea lions, and porpoises. Spacious safari tents in the remote rain forest ensure you remain comfortable during your adventure. Delicious gourmet meals focused on local ingredients are served daily in the base camp’s large wood-heated common area. In addition to daily sea kayak excursions, guests also enjoy hikes, a salt water hot tub over looking the strait, and evening campfires.

Discovery Islands Kayaking Expedition, BC

Included in National Geographic Canada’s 50 Places of a Lifetime, the Discovery Islands are a kayaker’s paradise and considered to be one of the West Coast’s best kept secrets.

Launching from breathtaking Rebecca Spit Provincial Park located in Quadra Island’s Heriot Bay, kayakers venture into the group of sparsely inhabited islands to explore the myriad of channels, bays, coves, points and passages.

Enjoy setting up camp at a different location each day and lighting campfires under the starry skies each night.

The Islands host abundant wildlife and are home to sea lions, seals, pacific white sided dolphins, orca, humpback whales, otters, colorful birds and some of the largest starfish and clams in the world. Playful seals and seal pups often approach sea kayaks!

Your trip starts out at a quaint coastal hotel, giving time to soak in your surroundings before launching into your first adventure. The Weekender (Discovery Islands, BC, Canada)

Launching from beautiful Rebecca Spit, this weekend of kayaking will explore the surrounding islands. Scenic and full of wildlife and inter-tidal sea life. This short kayaking trip is a great way to get a taste of the British Columbia's incredible wilderness.

Paddling and camping in and around Quadra Island will bring you into stunning scenery, abundant inter-tidal life and numerous harbour seals. Humpback whales have also returned to this region in large numbers.

Desolation Sound Kayaking Expedition, BC

With over 60 km (37 miles) of remote coastline to discover, the power and beauty of the wilderness provides many magical moments. When on land the native hiking trails in the rugged forests lead up to fresh water lakes and hidden waterfalls.
