Packing a Balanced Canoe

Walker from Old Town shares a quick tip on how to pack a balanced canoe to help ensure better tracking and stability on the water.

Packing a Balanced Boat

It's really important to know how to pack your boat. If the boat's unbalanced, it's not going to paddle the way it was designed to paddle. You really need to think about that when you're packing your boat. Essentially, you want to make sure you're evenly distributing weight throughout the boat.

If you are sitting all the way back in the rear of the boat, you are going to want to make sure that you add a little extra weight up towards the bow. A cooler is a great way to add a little ballast further up in the boat.

Once you get in your boat, you're going to want to make sure it's sitting nice and flat. If it isn't, it's important to make some adjustments to get everything balanced right out. This well help your boat track well, making for a good day of paddling!
