NRS Boat Sponge Description
This medium size sponge works to remove that unwanted pool of water that manages to collect under your kayak spray skirt. The Boat Sponge can absorb up to 36 ounces (1.1 liters) of water at a time. Paddling in whitewater or the sea, this sponge will lift out sand and moisture from the bottom of your boat that traditional bilge pumps leave behind. It can be used with a bilge pump or on its own to keep your boat dry and clean.

The NRS Boaters sponge Holds a surprisingly large amount of water for size. The material won’t scratch your ride and the little loop string is convenient if you need to clip it hang it somewhere. I Always keep one with me in the cockpit while I’m out and usually have another one in one of my bulkheads for use after I’m done to wash up my kayak and give it a quick rinse. Highly recommended.

I've had some enclosed…

I've had some enclosed sponges but they got dirty quickly and looked like mildew. Their rougher exterior was sometimes helpful in cleaning canoe and kayaks, but I can almost do the same with these NRS boat sponges. I liked the old ones' compactness and ease of clipping onto the rigging with a carabiner, but apparently you can do the same with the NRS "deluxe" model that looks like it encloses this sponge is a nice blue wrapping. But, I didn't like that the old ones stayed dirty and took forever to dry out. Those would take days (3+ when last tested) and they still weren't completely dry. Not so with these -- they dry overnight (and probably much quicker had I left them in the sun). Now, these are the ones that we throw in the front of the kayaks.
