Being a beginner, I felt it would be easier to learn on a larger paddle board. I felt this board was very stable, even in mild-med chop water on Tampa Bay. I did find it was good at tracking but some effort was needed to turn this big guy. After some practice, I think I'll be able to get my wife to come along & try using this in tandem.
Pros
It's big & stable. I'm a clumsy guy and had no issues staying upright.
Cons
Probably tougher to steer (turns) than a smaller board would be. I think this has plenty of room to modify for fishing.

My first SUP, bought as a repaired demo board. Light enough to carry easily, good learning board on flat small lakes or staying near shore. Sold because I want a longer board with more glide, carrying capacity and tie downs for touring. Beginning tip: I thought I needed to "get good BEFORE paddling with dog, turned out board was much more stable WITH dog. Small child, dog who can sit still actually serves as ballast and offsets your inadvertent weight shifts as you are learning. (My 50lb dog is an experienced kayaker and good at keeping her weight centered. She loves supping!). Our combined weight was 230 though which was max for this board.
Pros
Good learning board. Weight easy to carry. Length good for storing and transport, paddling close to shore, calm water.
Cons
No tie downs, not much glide. Bought a demo that had been repaired. Beware punctures.
Usage
Great family fun at lake or bay. Not for racing or touring. I towed behind touring kayak on kayak camping trips to play with at our swimming beach.

This is the perfect all-around board. It is extremely stable, tracks straight as an arrow and turns easily despite its size. It is great for flat water, paddling in the open ocean, and small surf.
Pros
Super Stable, tracks straight as an arrow and is nimble for its size. It is not a race board but, it is definitely not slow. A very fun do-anything board.
Cons
I wish it was a bit lighter. While it is only 26 lbs, it gets heavy if you have to carry it far.
Usage
Exercise, flat water paddling, open ocean paddling, surfing.
Good all around board especially for me! (age 61)
Pros
Lighter than other boards, easy to paddle, stable
Cons
Even though it is lighter than other boards, wish it was still even lighter
Usage

We call this our 'go to board' for instruction. It's so stable that we put folks of all sizes on it to get them started or regain their sense of balance after being on a less stable board.
Pros
- Light to carry.
- super stable even for bigger folks.
- tracks well with multi concave hull.
- stable for surf and light rivers.
- nose screw-ins for gear tie-downs.
Cons
- slower forward speed.
Usage
all usages.
