Canoeing and canoe tripping…

Submitted by: paddler2818579 on 12/27/2023

Canoeing and canoe tripping was an enormous part of my childhood, each summer I admire my parents Ray Kettlewell specials, hoping to one day be lucky enough to have my own. When I was 14 I recieved my very first Fishell paddle, a cherry Ray special. The paddle was far too big for me at the time, but I cherished it nonetheless. Every summer, I looked forward to being able to get my paddle in the water, and as I slowly grew into it, I fell more in love with it. Despite attending camp for many years, I was hesitant to bring up my paddle as a camper, for fear of damaging the beautiful work of art. However, once I became a staff member, I was proud to use my Fishell. The power, comfort and ease the paddle provides when paddling is beyond the capabilities of any other paddle I've ever used. After many years of using the paddle on rivers and lakes alike, I was beggining to want something a little more unique, and while I would never be rid of my cherry special, I wanted something that would allow to connect with the water when paddling.

I was always intrigued by the possibility of getting a quill, but knowing little about the paddle, I was hesitant to get one. After talking about how much I wanted one, I was presented with the possibility of getting one for my birthday. I was very excited by the prospect of finally being able to paddle with a quill, but I also didn't want to ask too much of my family. After some discussion, we found a workaround, and we placed an order on a walnut quill. I was not completely sure of the sizing, however after consulting the guide online, I thought that I had a good understanding of how to size it. A few days later I recieved a message from Greg Fishell, asking if we could talk about the sizing. I was happy to oblige, and he was incredibly helpful in helping me understand the sizing. He was initially unsure of the size I ordered, however after our discussion he made sure that I was happy with the size of the paddle and ensured that he would begin making the paddle right away. Only a couple weeks later I recieved my paddle, and with great excitement I opened it. I could not be more thrilled! The paddle is beautiful, its a dark slender paddle with a shimmering light sreak running up the side. I could not have asked for a better gift. I can't wait to try it out, and I can not express how thrilled I am.

If you are thinking of ordering a Fishell paddle I recommend Greg 120%. Amazing customer service and a well made paddle. I ordered a Quill made from cherry with an oil finish. I received it in less then half the time quoted so that was a big plus. The Quill is by far the best solo paddle I have used, it is very light and responsive and will not disappoint the new or seasoned paddler.

Beautiful craftsmanship, good…

Beautiful craftsmanship, good balance and great design. Greg made mine with a slightly longer shaft in Tiger Maple and it paddles wonderfully. Highly recommend the particular design for solo paddling and the craftsmanship and customer service irrespective of design. Very pleased with my purchase.
