I bought the Pelican…
I bought the Pelican Ultimate 100 a couple months ago for my birthday and I just love it! I’ve only been kayaking 5 or 6 times so I’m still very much a beginner. After scouring the internet for a few months learning everything I could about kayaking and kayaks, I decided on the Ultimate 100 due to its durability and stability. I’ve had it out on a couple of our local lakes where I was very impressed with its stability. I think it would actually be difficult to tip over and I’ve even been able to get out sideways along the shoreline quite easily. At only 36 lbs, it’s pretty easy for me to slide it on top of my Kia Sorento and carry it myself and, being only a 5’2” single woman who doesn’t want to rely on help, this was important to me. The stability, durability, and weight coupled with a sale price just over $200 makes this the perfect kayak for a beginner.

Bought three on 7/3/18 took them out on 7/4/18 and my 9yr old 75lb daughters ended up with a 5inch split in the front that they are fighting me to cover on warranty trying to say it must of been dropped to cause that much damage. All three kayaks went down the same river and the same spots on that river but hers was the only one with that type of damage. Their whole selling point is the ramX technology that makes it so much more impact resistant. I spent several hundred dollars to now have a kayak that only touched the water once and cant go back in.

After comparing various models I purchased this as my first kayak. At only 36 lbs. I can take this anywhere by myself. I enjoyed it so much, I bought two more! My friend bought an expensive sit-on that was so heavy she couldn't move it herself. When she saw mine, she bought one!!

bought kayaks at Dunhams for 200 bucks. could not ask for a lighter and more stable kayak for a novice. Took a friend out for his first time. He loved it and is going to buy one for fishing. At 36 lbs it is easy to handle.
weathercocks correctly in the wind. This kayak is not a speed kayak, will be great for small ponds and rivers with small rapids. great buy for the money.
The 100SE is the first kayak…
The 100SE is the first kayak I've owned, though I've used many borrowed in the past. Got this at Dunhams sporting goods for just over $200.
Pro:
Relatively low price.
Double chine hull is extremely stable, I could probably stand up in the boat no problem.
Rear "deck" is perfect for lashing down items you want to access quickly.
Cons:
Definitely not tracking strait. Mine drifts to the right even when I try to compensate for it.
Not easy to edge onto.
Rear deck needs drain plugs
No knee pads on this model.
Overall, it's a great beginners boat. If you're not sure that kayaking is for you, buy this boat. Great for small lakes to mid sized rivers, but be ready to paddle on flat water.
