Bought this kayak 3 summers…
Bought this kayak 3 summers ago. It is a great kayak for the average weight beginner. Our family has used this kayak more than we ever thought we would. Great on the rivers but not so great on the open water with wave action.
As a beginner I like this…
As a beginner I like this kayak. Its price point is very suitable for those wanting to try out the sport without renting.
I found it to be very stable and forgiving, yet it still turns on a dime. The front bungees are in just the right place to stick the paddle or a fish under and secure it to the deck. The back deck is easily reachable.
It does tend to take on water a bit too easy IMO, and the seat isn't good for long trips.
On land, though, it suffers. There's no easy way to cable lock it to something and it's very back heavy to carry. Adding fishing rod holders have me another spot to grab, which helped immensely. If you buy this kayak and keep it, you *will* need a cart and a removable seat pad. Get those and you're golden.
Last, know that this kayak is made of super thin plastic and has no secondary flotation at all. It is durable but any bumps or scrapes do risk rupturing the hull and rendering the kayak unusable. It can be patched but that will only be temporary, perhaps enough to carefully finish a float trip but nothing more.
I ran mine until I crashed it and found out about the hull the hard way. My wife still has hers and is happy with it.
Great kayak for a starter.…
Great kayak for a starter. Its nice and wide for good stability, and can fit a small cooler in the storage! The seat is not very comfortable as the straps are in bad places, we fixed ours with a seat cushion. Good for all around adventure and very durable
