Trip Overview
This river section is Lean, Clean and Green! Different from the upper Etowah River. Due to frequent releases from Lake Allatoona, the river is very clean with diverse and rich vegetation. Looks more like the Chattahoochee River Island Ford and Cochran Shoals sections. Very scenic with great fishing and paddling challenges. LAUNCH 15 miles below Lake Allatoona GA at Euharlee Boat Ramp. River is very clean and green, a result of frequent lake releases by Lake Allatoona.
The lower Etowah looks very similar to the lower Chattahoochee, I'm assuming because of the Lake releases. 1st half of 9:mile stretch is very calm with a few gentle shoals and fishing weirs (Native American fishing traps). Immediately after launching in Euharlee, you'll have shoals with 3 options, left, center, right. Go CENTER! 2nd half of trip amps up significantly. "Rock Garden Shoals" is a sensory journey through hundreds of age-rounded boulders, followed by fast-paced shoals, islands and beaches. Fun cruise in moderately swift water to the boat ramp.
