Trip Overview

Drakes Estero in the Phillip Burton Wilderness Area at Point Reyes National Seashore Drakes Estero and nearby Estero de Limantour are the only marine wilderness area on the west coast of the continental United States. We launched from the kayak ramp at the end of the Drakes Estero Access Road. We paddled around Schooner Bay and then around a point to Home Bay. It was too windy at Home Bay but it calmed down when we went back around the point to have lunch. Beautiful paddle, lots of shorebirds.

Conditions

Motorized watercraft prohibited year round. Drake’s Estero is closed to boating from March 1 through June 30 to protect harbor seals during the pupping season.
