Trip Overview

Coecles Harbor Marine Water Trail, winds through the Mashomack Preserve. The trail is approximately 5 miles round trip, allow 3 to 4 hours, I made a day out of it and explored the whole harbor. There are buoys 20 feet from shore marked with green leaves and white numbers. 1 to 13, the map is numbered, so you know what your looking at. You will see osprey's and their nests, deer, great blue heron, turtles, ducks and fish. Bring a lunch and land on Taylors Island to eat, bring a fishing pole and a camera.

Fees:

Small ferry fee, 13 dollars round trip for 2 people & car.

Directions:

L.I.E. -495 east to end, stay on 25 to Greenport, Rte. 114. Follow signs to north ferry to shelter island ... follow signs to Coecles Harbor.

At the launch there is a free map given out by the nature conservancy and shelter island kayak tours. {very, very nice people}
