Great area for fishing and beginner kayaking. The launch is made for paddlers and parking is free! Relatively protected from greater currents and no large boat traffic. The area amongst the bay, up to the buoys and even beyond the two small islands near the canal are all very shallow waters <10' at high tide so it makes for good shallow fishing. There are some mangroves along the West side that you can enter into and provides protection from windy days.
Conditions
The wind was at the max amount for fishing and the current actually pulled me into the wind often times.
