Trip Overview
My 10 year-old son and I took a paddle in Barnstable Harbor this morning. We put in about 1 hour after low-tide and headed west. It's a great paddle, no one else around other than a few oyster men raking their farms.
The currents are moderate near the put-in, they are strong in the middle of the harbor and to the east, near the mouth to Cape Cod Bay. It's fine though if you put in here and head west.
There is plenty to paddle through here. If you continue west and go up the river, you'll find diamond backed terrapins and there are lots of Osprey around. We had a ball!
Fees:
This put-in requires a Barnstable Resident sticker (which can be purchased for $25 at town hall) to park here (not to put in) during July/August. But you can avoid this by parking on the Scudder's Lane just outside the parking lot.
Directions:
Driving on 6A turn north on Scudder's Lane. The road ends at the boat ramp.
