Radyr Weir

River Taff

Description

Can paddle up to Castell Coch. Can also get quite shallow in some places. Large nail showing on steps down at launch point. ----- Sept 2021 I didn't see the nail but the launch spot probably wasn't intended for this use. It's not the easiest launch for a newbie. See photos. This area can get extremely busy especially on warm days. It's part of The Taff Trail which sees thousands of cyclist and walkers pass through. Parking is on a public road. It's a very short walk from the road to the launch spot. Depending on the wind direction this is very sheltered. The M4 bridge can act as a wind funnel. We paddled slowly up stream to the shallows and back. Took less than an hour. Was suitable to newbies. As the water level rises we'll be able to explore further and the current will become faster/stronger. The weir is immediately down stream of the start point. In the dry months people often play and swim in it but it's can become deadly in higher water levels especially after a heavy rain fall. There's no need to get near it. ------
