Description

Pitt Lake is one of the largest tidal lakes in the world with a tide of approx 3'.
The lake is a fjord lake up to 900' deep and as the wind funnels up the fjord it can create for a lot of waves and tough paddling. Winds pick up every afternoon 12-7pm or so. The lmountains also trap rising air and clouds so it can go from slightly cloudy to downpours in an hour.
From the launch point at Grant's Narrow, one can cross the lake and do a easy and pleasant paddle up Widgeon Creek.
If you head up the main lake, stay to the right side of the channel, the north side of the lake is mud flats.
They are several creeks that feed into the lake along the way and petroglyphs over 4000 years old carved into the rocks.
It is possible to paddle the length of the lake and up the head of the Pitt River (2 day trip)
