I got interested in SUP boarding after a family trip to Hawaii. Then I found out my cousins had a few boards and loved it, so I decided to get a board. I mostly wanted one that would be a good beginner/ intermediate board and also one that wouldn't break the bank. I have been using the Aqua Marine SPK-2 for the last year and it has met all my needs.
Pros
Easy to pack and inflate. It is pretty light and easy to maneuver. Feels stable.
Cons
I'm not sure it will do very well on a camping trip. I will have to be very mindful about how I pack it.
Usage
Mostly exercise, would like to try touring.

This is my first SUP - for a beginner, who is mostly on flat water and light ocean waves it has been great! It is durable in the Nova Scotia lakes, which tend to be a tad rocky.
Pros
Portable, affordable, easy to store, stiff and responsive once pumped up to 15 PSI
Cons
The pump that it comes with the SPK2 was of little use to me. I did not have the physical strength or weight to pump it up to the required 15 PSI. I bought an electric SUP pump and it works great; worth every penny!
Usage
Exercise and touring, mostly flat water and light ocean waves

This is the best entry-level stand-up paddle board type because you get a lot of stability, which means less time spent worrying about landing in the water.
It is generally shaped a bit longer and not as wide as other flatwater paddle board so that it can move through the water faster. It is also thicker than other types.
Pros
best entry-level stand-up paddle board
Cons
generally shaped a bit longer and not as wide as other brands
Usage
All-Around or Flat Water Boards

Awesome purchase. Very stable and easy to get going. I was deciding between this and a rigid one, and I took the risk on inflatable so that it was easier to transport. I have absolutely no regrets and would highly recommend this product to anybody!
Pros
Stable, easy to pick up speed, excellent construction and looks great
Cons
Time consuming to inflate
Usage
Exercise, Fishing

Great for a day at the lake hanging out with family/friends. Fun to teach with @ water camp. Fits a happy dog, too-quite happy with it.
Pros
Really like the speed you can get with it - great for a "core' workout- easy to transport-
Cons
Learning the "art" of the pump- there are lots of fellow inflatable SUP owners @ the Lake w/lots of smack talk about their own SUPs- but mine is the absolute best (not for nothing)Would love to have another one so that I could bring more bragging:)
Usage
I teach windsurfing & paddle boarding to 11-16 year olds @ camp on the Lake for 2 weeks every summer-so fun, teaching, & exercise are uses for this awesome SUP

This is a nice board for a beginner, just like me. It is easy to use straight out the box and inflation is easy, although it does take a while. My only problem is my balance is not that good at the moment but I don't feel this is the boards fault as my children just jump on and they're off!
I'm not sure if this board would suit an experienced boarder as I can feel it flex on the waves but for me at the moment it is an inexpensive way of getting into the world of SUP. There are three fins but it is easy enough to remove the two side fins once I improve. It is all set up for day tripping with tie-down points and an elasticated webbing.
Pros
Easy to use straight from the box
Cons
The supplied 3-piece paddle is a bit short for me (I'm 6 foot) and the flat style means paddling is a bit slow, upgrade to a better paddle asap. Takes a while to inflate so I've kept it inflated during the season and top it up before use.
Usage
Pleasure paddling along the south coast, light surf (not ready for surf SUP yet) and core exercise.

This was the first SUP I tried and loved it. Pumped up to 11 PSI with electric pump. Super solid at 11 PSI and is stable, fun, and a great workout. I certainly would recommend an electric pump. The manual pump is quite the workout. I weigh 155lbs. and the board is nice and stable in flat water and even in chop. The SPK-2 seems to be very durable as well. Takes a good beating with lots of use several times a week. I'm very impressed with the performance vs buck action. I don't own it, but get to use one all the time!!! I now want to buy an inflatable SUP too! I didn't realize how hard the electric pump worked till I used the manual labor pump.
Pros
Excellent performance bang for the buck can't beat this value pack with the paddle as well. The board is stiff and takes a good beating! Inflatables are great because they can take some abuse, but you still have to care for them. There is some performance loss compared to a normall carbon/fiber board, but the convenience wins out for sure and no worries about dings and chips like a hard board. The problem with SUP/SURF boards is the more you pay, the more delicate it is. Then you have to get a bag to protect it from everyday elements such as the sun and your garage. LOL
Amazon has these at a great price and free shipping.
Cons
Manual pump huge workout after about 5 PSI. Had to literally put all my weight into pushing the handle down by lifting my feet off the ground. Not a fan of the 3 piece paddle. It does come free with the board, so can't complain too much. 3 piece paddles are not ideal for paddle effeciency because of the loosness, but travel well because they are compact and fit in the carry bag which are designed to fit on planes. It's not a big issue when you're having fun on the lake.
Usage
My usage with the SPK-2 has been 1 to 2 times a week, not to mention it really gets used 4 to 5 times a week usually with my friend and her children. Mostly gets used in flat water at a gravel pond for exercise.

This is a truly great flatwater/river boarding due to it's flex. But for a beginner keep to the bay until you master balance and good paddle technique before hitting the witewater rivers.
The SPK-2 is a great board to bring on the beach, inflates quickly and easy to use. The perfect SUP for someone to learn on or the family outing and the low cost is perfect if you want to find out if this is your "THING" It Rides little low with a person with the weight of 224lbs on it, at this weight it's more difficult to ride and harder to balance and needs to be pumped up to the 14bar max and we tried it with 3 people with the grand total of 390lbs. And you know what it works if 2 are sitting down, one in front, one in the back and the middle one paddles(but it's not easy). For a smooth ride and easy to learn the weight limit is 190lbs.
Now for the fun part...
I've only gone down rivers that has the rating 1 up to 3. The best thing about this is that i know my SPK-2 can take the dings. it's fun, it's hard and challenges you stamina, your guts and your balance. For safety always wear a life west and helmet on the River.
Now to what the board cant do. Waves, I'm talking about SURFING. the flex bends with the waves, the plastic fins are to flexible, the rails don't work for waves at all. But i guess you can catch smaller slow moving waves but this is hard wobbly and the paddle is to short. when i tried my SPK-2 just bended with the wave and threw me off.
IT'S STILL A GREAT BUY FOR THE ADRENALINE JUNKIE LOOKING TO GET IN TO SUP ON A BUDGET. BUT THE BEST BUY IS FOR FAMILY'S AND NOVICES
Pros
easy to use, great to learn on and works in rivers. You can hit rocks, drop it without worrying about dings. Stores in the boot of your car and easy to transport. Can take a beating.
Cons
Cant surf. Short paddle if your tall. Bar meter is not on the pump. The storage bag is low quality and tears easy.
Usage
Exercise. Witewater(hard and hi level for suping) and for fun out with friends.

The SPK 2 by Aqua Marine is a great package deal for the budget first time buyer!Everthing you need to get out there on the water and have fun on your paddle board is included.
Pros
The SPK 2 handles well in most conditions. It offers a stable and maneuverable platform too experience all the fun and excitement that is stand up infalteable boarding!Feels rigid and steady ,responds well and is easy to learn on.Within a short time i felt like i had been using it all my life!
Cons
Not too much to say on the downside, perhaps the fins could be a little stronger and well manufactured, but they are easily replaced and the overall price makes up for it.

Wow, the SPK-2 is so easy to inflate, deflate and store. I was amazed at how stable this SUP is and I am a newbie to the SUP world. The SPK2 made it very easy for me to learn quickly and feel quite comfortable on my own.
Pros
Stores in small places, like the trunk of my car.
Extremely Stable
Cons
The pump could be battery operated and then would be smaller for easy storage.
Usage
I take it when I go fishing so that I can get into areas normally not able to by foot. It is a lot of fun.

just purchased it. I had take it to the water twice and so far so good. Im very happy considering its the first time I do this sport. I think if i can do it just like that, everyone can do it. I practiced it on a lake/canal. jetskies were all over the place making waves, etc... I didn't drop to the water. Of course it shakes when waves around and due to my lack of experience too. But I was able to handle the situation just fine. the more I use it the more experienced the more i can handle balance. I will keep it going here for a while until I become better then I will head to the open ocean were wind/waves/people will be into consideration. Lets just hope this board will last under normal use conditions. I will post an update in the near future just to see if I still this happy. its now April 2014. wait I forgot about the manual pump: its hard which means a good pre work out before entering the water. I weight 176 pounds and I was able to inflate it to 10psi which should be 15psi. Well, 10psi it performed very well. It holds its forms and stayed completely flat. Once I become an expert and wont need the work out, then I will purchased an electric pump. This is just to the fact to make more enjoyable the moment since i know myself and will paddle for a longer time getting the work out that im looking for. Not to mention I add a kayak seat and attach it to the D rings and now I can be seated and all....also got me a dual paddle of course. I will give 5 stars in the future if this board can handle me and the use as it is so far. Another reviews said about after a while some bubbles will show up in the bottom of it.....hope its not my case. Hey, I paid $460 for it. Others claim to be over $700 so I hope mine will last.

This is a great inflatable for the price (I paid $399). I have not had an inflatable before but bought this one for my daugther who does a lot of traveling. She has since taken it to California, Texas, and Costa Rica.
Pros
The 6 inch thickness gives it enough stiffness to avoid the bend that some inflatables have. It is able to ride waves great or is also a great board for flat water.
Cons
The pump that comes with it is worthless. Definitely invest in an electric pump.
Usage
Used for exercise, mild surf, touring, fishing.
