I was on a weeklong kayak…
I was on a weeklong kayak trip and some of the others had another brand of gravity filter that took all night to filter the water. When I whipped this baby out the job was done in a matter of minutes. Another trip some friends had one of those pump types. No one wanted to do the pumping. It looks arduous to say the least. I did have to back flush it once when it seemed hung up but a little fiddling with it and all was well. That's why the 9 rating. Not perfect but darn close. And oh so compact. Price is good too.

No filter is perfect, but this one comes close. After years of using, and failing with, different Katadyn pump filters, we switched to this. It's fast, large capacity, and light, with back flushing possible. Why it's imperfect; back flushing is actually recommended on a practically daily basis, and when air gets in the filter (which is inevitable) it takes awhile to work out and filtering is very slow until then. That said, this filter has never failed on our many backcountry trips...I'll put up with minor inconveniences for reliability.
I have purchased this filter…
I have purchased this filter about 5 years ago. I had it with me on a week long kayak tour with 8 people and they had brought along a filter of another brand. It took all night to filter the water and mine did it in minutes. They were impressed as was I. I love my filter and the best part is the ease of cleaning after your trip. One of my favorite pieces of gear. It packs up very small and fits anywhere. Gives you peace of mind about the water you're drinking.

I got one of these to replace a Pur Hiker I have had for 20 years, and I am glad I did. All one needs to do is fill it, and hang it up...that's it, your water making chores are done. No more pumping, lol. I used it on a 5+week trip last summer in Minnesota and Ontario and it worked great, with no problems at all. It is light weight and packs small too. You will need to back-flush the filter on occasion, but that's it. It is a well built, solid piece of kit, and was a pleasure to have along.
