The entire mirage drive by Hobie is a great idea hands free to fish and rig while paddling. I have found this to be a very dependable drive and kayak. The kayak at 14 foot handles larger people and allows you to carry more than enough tackle. The stability of the 14 makes it easy to stand and fish even without the bar you can add to it. I am 68 180 lbs and have no issues. Finally its a sit on top kayak so even when waves come in they drain out, and the vantage seat when the fishing is slow or stopped I have put the seat back and taken a nap.

Hands down, this is THE BEST fishing kayak available! If you're serious about kayak fishing and want the ultimate in hands-free fishing with all of the comfort and stability this kayak offers, then this is the one for you. It is truly a game-changer when you turn in your paddle for pedals! You notice it instantly when you can just steer yourself to the spot you want, all the while having your hands free to make that perfect cast!

Recently purchased a used 2011 or 2012 Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14 with Mirage Drive still in good condition. I’ve taken it fishing several times now and I love the kayak. The PA 14 is quite long and wide. The stability is great, stood up very easily in the kayak. It has plenty of room for a cooler and all my fishing tackle. The Mirage Drive pedals great and does well on windy days just don’t go directly against the wind. Paddling is still awkward due to the width of the kayak but a longer paddle may help with that. The rudder is very responsive and steering is easy while pedaling. The PA 14 is quite heavy compared to my past kayaks but it’s stability makes up for it. I can still load and unload the kayak by myself fully rigged. Getting on the water much quicker with the Hobie kayak cart which came with the PA 14. Overall I love the PA 14, it’s a heavy stable fishing machine.

This is the perfect mode of transportation for any angler looking for a real adventure, especially those searching in places that are remote and distant. Traveling down the rapids is no problem in this kayak. There is no reason to be timid or fear the end for this boat can weather any thunderstorm brought on by the mightiest of rain dances. And as the great river winds around the shallow muddy curve and the water all but dries up and the vein of this mighty waterway continues to traverse down the state, back in time, years rolling back, it is easy to lift out and port until you reach the warm, deep waters again.

A bit heavy and hefty, but worth the effort. Not the kind of kayak one can transport on top(at least not easily). Pickup or trailer is best.

The Mirage Pro Angler is without question one of my favorite new fishing kayaks I've ever owned. It transports well and handles effortlessly in strong curvy rivers to open waters. With the new features, its has more to offer than other brands plus the staff was informative and helpful in showcasing the new features. It was clear they not only sell the best fishing kayaks but they use them to. Thanks again.

The is the true pinnacle of sit-on-top, pedal driven kayaks! An absolute game changer when it comes to a fishing kayak. Stable, steerable, seaworthy, tons of storage, are just a few descriptors of this fishing machine. Is it expensive? Well, yes, as kayaks go, but it is built to last for as long as you'll want it, so in the long run it is worth every penny. The only downside is it is heavy (100+ pounds). I could not see ever owning anything but a PA 14!

I just want to express how amazing the Mirage Pro Angler 14 fishing kayak is. If you love Kayaking and fishing is your passion, then you have got to get yourself on of these models! It provides enough tackle compartments to give you exactly what you need in almost any fishing situation, and the elevated seat gives you an awesome bird’s-eye view to help with sight fishing. It’s an absolute beast to say the least! My advice fellow kayaker and fishing enthusiast, get yourself one of these and you will not be disappointed!

I bought my Pro Angler 14 in July of 2012. So far I've fished it in Oregon Bay, the Atlantic Ocean in NC and the Chesapeake Bay. Three words. I love it. I've had it out in 3-5 footers this past October, in the Chesapeake, with no problem. I've managed to swamp it once while trying to get into the Atlantic in NC. Totally my fault for not following good sea launching practices.

I can peddle continuously for 5-6 hours and make 3-4 knots trolling speed without any difficulty. I've added rod holders, fish finder and CPVC trolling arms. I built a trailer for the yak because at 110 lbs it's a little tough for me to manhandle it on my own. I'm 66. This years plans include the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico in Pensacola and Southern Fl. I have no problem being towed out to 15 miles and left for a few hours and then being towed back in. Best yak I've ever experienced.

I've had my Hobie for about one month. I love it. We live on a chain of lakes in northern Minnesota. I use the boat for fishing, exercise, and to just plain find my happy place. What are it's attributes? - fast, stable, simple, and hassle free.

I've trailered to other water twice using my canoe trailer - easy lift of 1/2 at a time right side up. On one of these occasions was in big waves and wind with a quartering sea. Not even a hint of a tendency to broach. I've outfitted it with a fish finder and ram rod holder. A headlamp with a red light setting makes night fishing a snap.

This really seems to be a unique concept well executed. Thanks Hobie. The mirage drive is brilliant.

Purchased the Pro Angler in May 2009. I am not getting paid for this review so here goes. Took this kayak hybrid out into the bay during times of low wind and moderate wind. The stability of this hybrid is awesome, and I'm not some light short guy either. It pedals with ease. You can stretch out and enjoy the water without any fear of tipping over. You've got fishing rod storage up the wazu, incredible tackle storage and maximum room to breath. Standing up in this hybrid is more than doable.

This is a fisherman's dream. It's also very quick on the water. Thanks for reading. I am really enjoying the hybrid kayak in the salt water so understand that in fresh water... it would be that much easier to fish from.
