SPECS: Wt 23 oz. without fuel. Runs on white gas or unleaded fuel.
I owned this stove's predecessor, the "Peak 1", and it lasted 10 years. This is a very reliable stove that will light in the winter with preheating. The Exponent 442 is probably too heavy for backpacking, but it's perfect for kayak camping. Very compact and self-contained. Operation couldn't be simpler: pump, open the fuel line, and light. No extra parts or fuel bottles to attach.
For one person, a full stove can easily last 3 days without refueling. Compared to other white gas stoves, the Exponent 442 simmers pretty well.
Reminder: Don't fill the stove to the brim. Leave an air space in the tank for compression.
I'm rating this stove a 10 for kayak camping. For backpacking it would be about a 7 due to its weight. The weight is really irrelevant for kayak camping.
