The 16′ Explorer is a very versatile canoe and it’s suitable for all kinds of activities, like hunting, fishing, camping, expedition or family trips. This canoe can be paddled as much by a beginner as an expert. Its 38 “width makes it the most stable boat in our range and its large capacity allows for safe expeditions. The 16′ Explorer was developed from our Huron model in red cedar, which has been much appreciated since decades. It offers exceptional weight versus the cedar counterpart. It is our most versatile model that can be appreciated by any type of paddler.
Fiberglass with PVS Gunwales - Fiberglass is an entry-level material known to make canoe hulls more robust. Fiberglass canoes are more budget-friendly than Kevlar or carbon canoes. These canoes are very popular with camps, outfitters, schools and any other type of paddler, of course. The fact that they are infused fiberglass makes them much lighter than those that have been built with the old traditional method.
Fibrex with PVC Gunwales - Fibrex canoes are between fiberglass and Kevlar canoes. The combination of fiberglass and Innegra makes them robust and allows them to better resist tears and punctures, compared to the canoe which is constructed of fiberglass only. They can be used in lightly choppy waters and are great for expeditions.
Kevlar and Cherry Wood Gunwales - Kevlar canoes are the most popular on the market since they are known to be very light. Our canoes are infused with urethane, a process that allows the canoe to be easy to carry over long distances, given its light weight. Your Kevlar canoe will therefore be pleasant to handle when the time comes to attach it to your vehicle, or to remove it. Kevlar fabric resists puncture and tearing from impact. However, we recommend them for use in calm waters.
Carbon fiber with Composite Gunwales - Lighter than Kevlar canoes, carbon canoes are however more fragile. This is why they are made of a combination of carbon and Kevlar, or carbon and Innegra Basalt, in order to obtain a certain resistance against perforation and tearing. We always use a clear gelcoat with the carbon to be able to admire the richness of this fabric on the outside.
