15’ Prospecteur Description
The Prospecteur 15‘ is an ideal canoe for people wishing to paddle solo or in tandem. Given its light weight, it is easy to carry on portages, even in more restricted areas. The somewhat “V” design of the hull, as well as its very moderate width, allow an easy navigation both solo and in tandem. The Prospector 15 is suitable for any type of paddler. Its weight and size are significant assets that make expeditions with a lot of portage much more enjoyable. It is ideal canoe for the discovery and exploration of new landscapes.
Fiberglass with PVC Gunwales - Fiberglass is an entry-level material known to make canoe hulls more robust. Fiberglass canoes are more budget-friendly than Kevlar or carbon canoes. These canoes are very popular with camps, outfitters, schools and any other type of paddler, of course. The fact that they are infused fiberglass makes them much lighter than those that have been built with the old traditional method.
Fibrex with PVC Gunwales - Fibrex canoes are between fiberglass and Kevlar canoes. The combination of fiberglass and Innegra makes them robust and allows them to better resist tears and punctures, compared to the canoe which is constructed of fiberglass only. They can be used in lightly choppy waters and are great for expeditions.
Kevlar and Cherry Wood Gunwales - Kevlar canoes are the most popular on the market since they are known to be very light. Our canoes are infused with urethane, a process that allows the canoe to be easy to carry over long distances, given its light weight. Your Kevlar canoe will therefore be pleasant to handle when the time comes to attach it to your vehicle, or to remove it. Kevlar fabric resists puncture and tearing from impact. However, we recommend them for use in calm waters.
Carbon fiber with composite gunwales - Lighter than Kevlar canoes, carbon canoes are however more fragile. This is why they are made of a combination of carbon and Kevlar, or carbon and Innegra Basalt, in order to obtain a certain resistance against perforation and tearing. We always use a clear gelcoat with the carbon to be able to admire the richness of this fabric on the outside.

I bought my Prospector 15…
I bought my Prospector 15 canoe in the spring of 2022 and spent most of the summer on the water. I chose the kevlar version for its lightness and its solidity. The gunwales are made of cherry wood and the paint is two tones of forest green and white. I added skid plates to protect the tips and the kneeling bar to facilitate solo maneuvers. The interior finish is made of innegra fiber, more durable than the standard finish. I am very pleased with the result. The canoe behaves very well on the water, it is stable when kneeling, even in strong winds, but obviously a bit more sloping when sitting. The length of 15 feet allows a good compromise between the load capacity and the ease of traveling solo. It allows two people to leave with all the canoe-camping equipment for several days, but also allows for nice solo trips. The kneeling bar does its job very well. Even though it is only a carved wooden bar, it is still comfortable to use for several hours. The position of the canoeist is excellent. No fatigue, no pain. The yoke is also relatively comfortable. With a weight of no more than 50 pounds, you can carry the canoe on your back without any problem for several miles. My canoe is beautiful, and on the water, it turns heads.
