    16’6 Prospecteur Description

The Prospecteur 16’6 is one of the most popular models to have been marketed of all brands. It’s our tallest canoe. It can be used both on a calm lake and on a river since it can be maneuvered very quickly in order to avoid obstacles. Its reactivity remains present even if it is heavily loaded. It is also endowed with a remarkable stability both solo and tandem. This canoe adapts to any type of situation and is suitable for both beginners and experienced paddlers. It is the model most used in camps, parks and schools.

    Fiberglass with PVG Gunwales
    - Fiberglass is an entry-level material known to make canoe hulls more robust. Fiberglass canoes are more budget-friendly than Kevlar or carbon canoes. These canoes are very popular with camps, outfitters, schools and any other type of paddler, of course. The fact that they are infused fiberglass makes them much lighter than those that have been built with the old traditional method

Kevlar and Cherry Wood Gunwales - Kevlar canoes are the most popular on the market since they are known to be very light. Our canoes are infused with urethane, a process that allows the canoe to be easy to carry over long distances, given its light weight. Your Kevlar canoe will therefore be pleasant to handle when the time comes to attach it to your vehicle, or to remove it. Kevlar fabric resists puncture and tearing from impact. However, we recommend them for use in calm waters.

Carbon Fiber with Composite Gunwales - Lighter than Kevlar canoes, carbon canoes are however more fragile. This is why they are made of a combination of carbon and Kevlar, or carbon and Innegra Basalt, in order to obtain a certain resistance against perforation and tearing. We always use a clear gelcoat with the carbon to be able to admire the richness of this fabric on the outside.

    We love our Rheaume 16'6…

We love our Rheaume 16'6 Prospector. It's been an amazing canoe for day trips and backcountry canoe camping. We have a large family with two big dogs so we take multiple canoes on our backcountry trips. What I've really enjoyed about this canoe aside from the amazing craftsmanship is its versatility. I often solo when I get some free time and the 16'6 Prospector has been great when I'm out on the lake on my own, but it gives me all the room I need for kids, a dog, and gear when I need it.
