Trip Overview

(4.1*/5) Winter Park Chain of Lakes

Nice launch point at Dinky Dock right next to our Alma Mater, Rollins College. Brie and I also went to the same high school right down the road as well, Bishop Moore. The free parking at Dinky Dock is a little small and it might be a bit difficult to find a spot on weekends, but when you do, you are only steps away from the launch. You start in Lake Virginia and can connect to many of the surrounding lakes through nice well kept channels.

For beginners I'd highly recommend paddling along the shores of the lakes as, especially on weekends, you will be sharing the water with a decent amount of boats and jet skis. Not only do you have to be mindful of a potential accident if someone wasn't paying attention, but also the wake made by said vehicles. For more experienced paddlers, it is not a problem.

I loved it out on the chain of lakes, especially seeing all the beautiful and rather expensive houses right on the water. The only downside is on busy days, connect from one lake to another via the channels can get rather congested as it is only big enough for one vehicle to pass at a time, so you might find yourself having to back up or pull off to the side to let a boat pass...if there is room.
