Winter Kayaking 10-Miles Real-Time | Chattahoochee River | Jones Bridge - Island Ford

A self-supported trip created by RedKayakGuy

Trip Overview

Enjoy 3-hours (10-miles) of winter kayaking with minimal commentary and soft ambient music. Notice the expanded river views without leaves on trees, offering great sights of homes along the route. It was a warm, sunny February day in Georgia. Great trout fishing and plenty of easy/moderate rapids to enjoy. You'll reach Holcomb Bridge at the 3-mile mark, followed by biggest Class I rapid on trip. Then Garrard Landing boat launch. There's bathroom here if needed. Continue the remaining 7-miles, passing Horseshoe Bend Golf/Tennis club on River Right.

There are two TAKEOUT options. First is at the Island Ford boat launch, just before you reach the beautiful shoals. I highly recommend you pass the boat launch and paddle the shoals on River Left, easy and thrilling. You can then TAKEOUT at Don White Memorial Park another 2-miles down river, River Right. Regarding the previous shoals at Island Ford, you do have the option to take River Right Shoals, but route can be bumpy if water low. If this is your first time, probably should paddle river left shoals, always passable.

I'm attaching a movie I made of this trip, please enjoy. The video is on my YouTube Channel @RedKayaGuy-RKG and includes bonus content from the Snow Day (Jan. 10, 2025) at the Island Ford Shoals, it was beautiful.

Thanks and enjoy, see you on the river!
