Trip Overview
Named “The West’s Best Short Whitewater Trip” by National Geographic, a Westwater Canyon rafting trip should not be missed. The introduction to this unforgettable adventure takes place on the calm but scenic waters of Ruby Horsethief, making for a great prelude to the excitement in Westwater Canyon. This canyon was formed by a section of the Colorado River slicing through the beautiful red, black, and gold landscape of the remote Utah wilderness. As the canyon walls narrow, the rapids become closer together and more exciting; there are numerous Class III and IV rapids, including the infamous Skull Rapid.
OARS offers guided-rafting and catered camping on the river for two or three days. In between the rapids, you’ll have a chance to explore Native American petroglyphs and outlaw hideouts which are scattered throughout the isolated canyon. Evenings will bring a chance for relaxation as your guides make meals fresh for you, and a chance to sleep in a tent or out under the stars.
