Waccamaw River, Wacca Wache Landing

Trip Overview

On a beautiful, sunny, extremely windy day, I followed a boat landing sign to find this. There was enough rough water in the middle of the river to make crossing - especially as I was solo - unappealing. I went south, and turned in to the first creek; it was very small, with a reasonable amount of current, and went a surprising distance. I surprised a pair of wood storks, saw a swallow-tailed kite, and great blue and little green herons, and a rather large turtle. Irises were in bloom, and the cypress' feathery foliage leafed out overhead. But I had many more miles to go to make it to Morehead City, NC, so didn't spend the time this place deserves.

Safety Notes

Watch current and Intracoastal traffic.

Conditions

Very windy, with lots of tidal current swirling, But control of boat was never in question.
