Sultan to Monroe on the Skykomish

Trip Overview

Headed out at 11 am from Sultan Sportsman park. Love jetting out from the Sultan river to the Skykomish. Low water this far into summer. I tried out my hybrid Kayak/Paddle board with a pole to steer. Only two danger spots that were easy to get out and lead the boat around, East of Thousand Trails campground, a huge pile of stumps and trees, strainers. I am always surprised that this stretch is not more popular. There were no spots so shallow that I had to walk. Salmon (I assume humpies) were scarce but jumping like crazy. A Crane but no other wildlife this late in the day. Loved seeing a elderly group of kayak-er enjoying the same space. Great beginner place to learn poling. I got pretty proficient in the 6 hours it took to get to Lewis Street bridge in Monroe. Remember to parking along Lewis St for pull out so you don't have to use two state parking passes.
