Trip Overview

Nice river trip for beginners. About 13 miles. Easy free parking for put in and take out. Take out does have porta potty. Did this for a 2nd river trip for 10 yr old daughter. I typically like to do rivers this popular on weekdays but had to do weekend because of work. It's a nice but water dependent river. I was afraid after not having much rain we would drag a lot. To the contrary we flew through this river. The water was great, even heavy waves in a few sections, which was awesome according to my daughters. It's a long stretch but there are plenty of sand bars to picnic or camp on. Just look for snakes first. We saw 3 on this trip. There is a historical point on the trip about halfway. You can see the tunnel that Montgomery Bell created for his ore mining operation. If you want to take a short trip you can do the 5 mile loop around the bend which only requires 1 vehicle. Or you can dock for a while at the Narrows to hike up to the bluff.(about 1.5 miles) or hike around to the backside of the tunnel. It's a great picture for either one.

Safety Notes

Don't try to go into tunnel.

Gear Notes

Bring water.

Conditions

Rain dependent. Mostly year round.
