Trip Overview

Start at mcdowell park in naperville. After quick 1 mile, there is take out cement stairs on right side before dam. Exit and portage up and over dirt trail, reentry after dam. Continue on meandering thru forest most people never see. Its great fun to kayak right thru downtown naperville, but be prepared for low water areas. You might need to step out on to gravel bottom to float your kayak a few feet out of low water. Exit at Eaton park preserve , there is canoe launch ramp at the east side of the river right after the 135th street bridge.

Be aware of tree limbs and avoid

Flat bottom basic kayaks do very well

Portage Notes

Can be muddy, recommend water shoes
