Dan River in North Carolina

Trip Overview

My wife and I decided to make a short trip to test out our new Dagger Reflection 15. We put in at Hanging Rock Park put-in and paddled about 5 miles down to Moratock Park in Danbury.

The trip took about 3 hours as we were fishing along the way. We did not see any other paddlers for the first half of the trip, but then a group of boyscouts caught up with us as well as another small group and one other couple. I was surprised as it was a warm Saturday and the trip was between two easy public access points.

This was my first trip down the Dan River. I was impressed with the high cliffs and scenery. We saw an osprey and a few deer as we paddled.

The river was clear of fallen trees and was very rocky. The water was high enough that we never had to walk any section. The rapids we ran were all class 1. Overall, it was a nice, easy paddle for an afternoon. We even managed a few fish.
