- Smith Mountain Lake Community Park
Description
Gated park in a nice community, that is open and free to the public. It is maintained by the Franklin County Parks & Rec. agency and members of the community. The park is open from sun rise to sunset, and has a gate at the front entrance. Once you pass the entrance gate the first parking lot to your right has the kayak/canoe launch. The launch is located a short walk from the first parking spot on the right of the parking lot, please note that it is a one way into the first parking lot. The launch is about 10’ wide, and you have to walk your vessel and gear to the water, there is no vehicle access at this section. When you launch you will be in a smaller cove area away from the main boat traffic and across from the smith mountain lake state park. *Notes about the park: Other than the kayak/canoe launch, the park also offers multiple walking trails, a fishing pier, a playground, a swimming beach, and is dog friendly. There are actual bathrooms at the second parking lot next to the playground, and a porta-potty in the first parking lot. They are not completely COVID maintained, so they are considered “use at your own risk”, but are still cleaned regularly and accessible. They have a couple of drink vending machines next to the bathroom, but are not filled on a routine schedule. However, there is a water fountain. There are picnic and standard benches throughout the park, with two picnic pavilions, along with benches and tables on the pier. They have trash receptacles throughout the park, coupled with a “pack in, pack out” policy. The parking lots and roads are well maintained, and accessible by any type of vehicle.Location & Directions
