Description
This is a public boat ramp at the end of Dorset Ave. in Ventnor. There is a square shaped driveway with many parking spaces including extra long ones for boat trailers. In the middle of the square shaped driveway is a large grassy area and there is one picnic table. There is a boat ramp with a muddy, rocky beach on either side of the ramp. Beware, there are some rocks, bricks, and chunks of pavement on the beach, so water shoes are advised if you launch from the beach instead of the ramp. The ramp can get busy at times, but usually there's plenty of room to launch from the beach. It's called Ski Beach and the long straight body of water is used for water skiing and tubing. There can be a lot of boats and jet skis, but they usually stay far enough away that wakes aren't too bad. From here, you can paddle northbound on the Intracoastal Waterway in the bay behind Ventnor and Atlantic City. You can paddle southbound on the Intracoastal Waterway towards Margate. If you go west towards the mainland, you can enter Lakes Bay and go towards Pleasantville. If you turn right from the launch area, you can paddle behind Bader Field towards Atlantic City. Another option is a round trip around Ventnor Heights. You can turn right from the ramp, head under the Black Horse Pike, turn right around Bader Field (unused airfield), and join the ICW southbound. Then you can follow the ICW southbound back to Ski Beach. When you reach the end of the no wake zone, turn right and you'll see Ski Beach. This is almost 6 miles and takes about 2 hours. You can also go left from the launch and do the round trip in the other direction.Location & Directions
