Lake Osborne / John Prince Park

Lake Osborne

Description

Large lake in Lake Worth, a large portion of which borders and enters John Prince Park. The lake extends all the way from Lake Worth Road down to Hypoluxo Road. There is a nice trail just north of the John Prince Park campground (but south of the campground entrance) starting under the little bridge (near the boat ramp). There's another nice trail that is basically in the park, but you get to it from either just south of 6th Ave on the north end or under a little bridge that's just in from Lake Osborne on the canal that heads west where Lake Osborne opens up coming south from 6th Ave. There's another red dot on the map on that entrance.

Again, there's a boat ramp in the campground, but you could probably just put in from anywhere within the park near the water during daylight hours. You could just park near the water and walk your boat to the water and put it in. The park may close at dusk, aside from the campground, but you can also park along the lake opposite the park on Lake Osborne Dr (there is parking the whole length) and put in from there.

The lake has alligators, so just be careful putting in at water's edge, especially in the evening. Leave them alone and they will do the same. There are also motor boats, jet skis, and water skiers sometimes on the lake, but it's usually not busy and we often have full reign of the lake ourselves. Our favorite time to go is before sunset. We paddle the trails and catch the sunset from the middle of the lake near the airport close to Lantana Rd.

If you choose to paddle in the evening, get some lights for your boat. Motor boats sometimes speed through at night and you want to be visible. It gets dark out on the lake at night, which is part of its charm.

There are bathrooms in the park, but they are probably closed in the evening. You may be able to use the ones in the campground. I suggest going before you arrive. If you are in the park during open hours, there are tons of things to do, outside of hours though, do not count on using the amenities.
