Helen Mellon Schmitt Park on Rattlesnake Island is the closest kayak launch to Fort Matanzas. You can also reach for Matanzas by launching on the beach side from the state park entrance. But this but Helen melon Schmidt Park is where the locals like to go. No need to carry the kayak over boardwalks. Drop the kayak right off of the car and into the water here. If you don’t know where you’re going you’re not going find it. But once you do you’ll be glad. This is an excellent kayak launch. Consider launching off into Matanzas Bay. Or catch the back side to hop right into the intracoastal to head north into the Pellicier aquatic preserve. It’s a short distance to Faver Dykes State Park. Washington Oaks state Gardens is nearby. Marine land. Princess place preserve is always a great idea. Watch out for boats in the intercoastal it’s narrow and currents can be very swift.
