Foord’s Landing

Prime Hook Wildlife Refuge

Description

Lovely spot with good access. Parking onsite.

Beware - the creek meanders for a very restful mile through abundant life. Lots of birds from Redwing Blackbirds to Osprey and heron, turtles galore. There are some lovely little ponds to explore too. BUT. where the creek empties into the marshland is very silted over. We had to fight through another mile of mud to get to the takeout at the Prime Hook Visitor's Center. We ended up giving up, pulling out at the tip of the spit that runs East from the Visitor's center, and carrying out to the parking lot. It may be that we missed the correct channel, but I'm confident we were following the park's signs. Would only recommend trying to paddle through to the Visitor's Center with someone who has recent experience in this spot.
