I chose the Journey for its narrow width, low profile, length for tracking, hatches to load with camping and day use gear. I have been very happy with all that it was designed to be. Because I am a paralyzed paddler I found this kayak to also easily be adapted with outriggers and a seat that keeps me in a solid upright position. The main objection for my particular case is the cockpit size is a bit to small for transferring in and out. This kayak tracks like a dream and is quite fast. It also slices through waves nicely.

Searching for a kayak that would be suitable for adapting to my disability condition I chose the Jackson Journey 13.5 for several reasons. I wanted a kayak that had a low and narrow profile that could also carry items in the dry. The Jackson Journey 13.5 fit this description nicely.

It tracks beautifully even without using the rudder. The dry hatches carry an abundance of gear and do a pretty good job of keeping things dry. I would still recommend sticking the gear that absolutely has to stay dry into dry bags or sealed boxes. The low profile above the water and narrow 24 inch width helps make for a shallow reach with the paddle which helps me conserve energy. There is plenty of deck bungee to strap extra items that may need to be accessed readily. The day-hatch is within easy reach for smaller items such as keys or energy bars just behind the cockpit.

This is a well designed kayak that can be used for camping trips as well as shorter day trips. A highly recommended kayak.
