Rod Selection Tips for Kayak Fishing
Learn some rod recommendations from Kyle Peterson to help you bring your kayak fishing to the next level.
From YouTube:
"Kyle Peterson has invested a lot of time chasing largemouth bass from kayaks in urban and backwoods settings alike. Given the unique and varied ways to catch bass, he’s devised some tested rod, reel and line recommendations to make you more efficient out of a kayak.
Limited space and ability to move is an obvious constraint when it comes to working certain baits and setting the hook. Peterson goes on to explain what presentations dictate the use a shorter rod and when to reach for longer combos. He uses braid almost exclusively to counteract weaker hooksets; braid paired on a high-speed reel and longer rod make hook setting efficiency comparable to boat or bank fishing.
Kyle also hits on the benefits of hands-free pedal kayaks for boat control and landing fish. He explains how backpedaling aids in hook retention, clearing fish from cover and preserving productive spots. Conversely, forward maneuvering allows you to quickly get up on the fish and clear them from cover as demonstrated in the video."
