I have only been kayaking…

Submitted by: bsfdchief on 8/2/2022

I have only been kayaking for about 18 months, and only boat on calm lakes and ponds. Because of neuropathy resulting from chemo, I need light, maneuverable boats. I found this one on Facebook, and the owner knew virtually nothing about it. It was small, clean and light, and my web search had been for the 10' model, not this one. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed. It tracks terribly, and is barely big enough for me (5' 10" & 168#) When rinsing it out after the maiden voyage, the flotation styrofoam around the seat began to disintegrate into tiny balls. I have a 12' Pelican fishing kayak that is wonderful, but heavy, and I assumed this would be of the same quality. It was not. It could make a good entry boat for a kid, or a small adult. I expected more from Pelican.

Have you ever helped a…

Have you ever helped a teenager by rowing back up a river instead of down? We took our granddaughter on her first kayak ride down a slow-moving rocky river. Thankfully, when she panicked after hitting a large rock, we were all in our Pelican Trailblazers. This kayak is light, easy to maneuver against the river's flow, and very stable, so we were able to kayak back to her against the river's flow. Getting her to shore by holding on to one of the dual handles was easy and the drain plug came in handy, too. This 27 lb. lightweight proved perfect for a beginner. The Pelican Trailblazer 80NXT saved the trip, and because of it, she now loves to go kayaking with us!
