GET THIS VEST!!

Submitted by: paddler395071 on 9/11/2017

We have a 75 pound doberman and ordered the large vest for her. It fit perfectly and has a bit of room up and down for weight loss and gain. The nice thing about this vest is the way the front of the vest envelopes the chest and belly area. If you have a hard to fit dog this is your vest. It surrounds the dog like a sweater instead of fitting over the dog like a jacket. The color was great and looked wonderful against her black and tan coloring. The first thing you are going to notice about this vest is how well made it is. It doesn't feel like a fru fru pet vest that you hope will help keep your dog afloat. This vest is more in line with what you would want for yourself if out in the water and needing to keep afloat. Stitching is secure and it has floatation all around the mid section. Our girl had no issues getting around in the water and her head was above the water line the entire time. She is older and those handles are large enough to help her in and out of the water without worrying that they will break. We used both of them. I would definitely recommend this vest. I did email Salus with one request for the skippy 2.0 vest. I would include a chin float. Our dog is very old at 12 years for a doberman. As you can imagine she tires out easily where play and exercise are concerned. I never saw her snout go under water but it would be good to have a float for the dog to rest it's head on. This would be essential if the dog was involved in an accident situation or carried in a rip current to keep its head above water if it tires out. That being said, do not consider that as any reason to not buy this vest. Its better than any other on the market in my opinion and keeps the animal very high in the waterline. If you want the best for your pet this is it.

I looked long and hard to…

I looked long and hard to fined my dog the right PFD (Pet Flotation Device). All the others I saw had the flotation on the dogs back, held around the dogs throat. This is not the ideal dog design...dogs backs are at water level as they swim; flotation will not help much if it is 1/2 out of the water. And how long would you like to float suspended by your neck/throat? The Skippy has most of the flotation on the sides (where it belongs) and some under the dog. The back area is mesh.

Two straps go under the chest and there is a yoke that comes up between the dogs front legs and attach over both shoulders, well away from the throat. The yoke is flotation too and this gives a little padding to the chest so that 'Fido' does not bang his sternum while jumping back into your boat. Two handles help you in this regard also. I got the Large and it is Very large...my dog is big and the XL is way to big even for him. (the xxxsmall is small cat sized).

Bottom line, this is the dog flotation I have been waiting for, for a long time. If you bring your dog with you on the water, they deserve the Skippy. Get one.
