I find that taking a couple asprin before any hot-weather paddle may prevent a stroke but a glass of wine at dinner to be a civilized ritual that relaxes me before sleep and impresses the female paddle buddy. But how to get the wine there?
Most people haul a glass bottle (NONONO!!! NO GLASS). Then I listened to a wine-expert suggest that I fill a soda-bottle with red wine and freeze it! Red wine freezes well and defrosts to temp by dinner. I quickly got tired of the soda-bottle and when gifted with the Platypus Wine Bag, I found my problem solved.
Platypus makes the bag in a distinctive color to prevent you from mixing it up with your drinking water. And when empty, it folds flat. It is the exact size for a liter bottle of wine so there is no problem with destroying the bag when you freeze it, unlike that bottle of white I accidentally left in the freezer while waiting for that model to come over for a hot-tub event. Don't ask... but I now have to clean my freezer.
To Use, choose your favorite RED wine and transfer said beverage into the Platypus bag. When the wine bottle is empty, you will have an air space in the bag. Squeeze the bag until the wine reaches the spout and seal. Freeze. Between the now-vacant air space and the construction of the bag, the wine will freeze without destroying the bag. Wrap it in a towel and put on the bottom of the kayak against the hull, below water level. By the time you are ready for dinner, the wine is defrosted and at the proper temp. Plus it holds 4 glasses so you can share with your friends.
