Downloader Description

The DownLoader is a premium J-style fold-down kayak carrier with features for low clearance, ease of loading and universal fit for most load bars. These carriers include aluminum corrosion proof frames, molded strap bales and replaceable padding for the base and frame. For increased satisfaction, the MPG351-XL Telos Kayak Load Assist can be integrated to this system (sold separately).

Note: The base of the carrier has a rectangular "cutout" that has been included for square cross bar fit. This "cutout" does not effect the fit or function of the carriers when installed to round or oval shaped cross bars.

Note: All Malone carriers come with two lengths of installation hardware (hex bolts). Cross bars can vary in thickness and having two lengths to choose from allows the consumer to select the best fit for their application. They recommend that the unused set of hardware be retained for future use with a different vehicle or cross bars.

After trying many carriers I came accross the downloader. Nothing comes close to a set of these. They hold my sea kayaks nice and secure and with the ramps it dies help loading. Spare parts are the only issue though as its not easy to get them in the UK

Perfect rack for transporting your kayak. Easily clamp to any style cross rails. Love that they fold down for easy access to the garage. My wife loves them as it makes her car easy to see in any parking lot! I use mine for twin Hurricane Tampico's. 14 foot kayaks are securely held with your cam style straps. Always use bow and stern lines for any high speed distance!

I've been using Downloaders with Telos Load assists for a couple of years. The racks are well designed and durable, but may not be perfect for every boat. For poly boats or composites with heavy layups, they're great. For 'ultra lite' lay-up (Kevlar egg shells) or wood boats with varnish finishes you may cause a bit of scarring from pushing a boat over the 'loading ramps'. Likewise a boat with a lot of hull curve may have real 'pressure points' when loaded on it's side.

Just bought a second set of these to transport two kayaks. Very easy to use, economical, and holds the boats secure. My only suggestion is to keep a few extra wingnuts handy--the plastic ones included break easily.

I have two sets of Malone Downloaders mounted to my factory crossbars. I usually carry two just over 12 ft sit on tops that are 30" beam. The Downloaders work great. They are rock steady and love the fact that they fold down so I can keep them on the SUV when I know I am going to use them multiple days. They have a loading ramp which is a great extra but what's really outstanding is that they connect to the Telos loader arms which I also have. The cradles are padded. The universal clamps came with different sized bolts and I had no problem installing them.

Malone Customer Service is Excellent!!! I bought 1 set originally from Amazon, the second set I bought later from a dealer. Both sets came with all hardware plus tie down straps and bow and stern tie lines. However, the dealer set (a newer model) came with nice strap bales on the j rack which really helps keep the straps in the right position while loading until you tie everything down. I called Malone thinking maybe I could buy the bales and put on my original set and they sent them out for free and talked me through how to install them. I am a Malone customer for life!!
