Delta 10AR Description

This lightweight 10-footer brings a whole new level of performance to the world of recreational kayaks. Its remarkable quickness and stability come courtesy of our proprietary Fusion Hull technology, which combines the best features of two proven concepts (quiet and predictable V shapes and ultra-steady catamaran hulls) to deliver stable performance without the excessive width of most recreational kayaks. The result is an excellent kayak for fishing and photography that’s small and light enough to take almost anywhere, or station on the deck of larger craft.

The light weight and…

Submitted by: guest-paddler on 12/27/2023

The light weight and stability are the Delta 10AR’s most attractive features. I bought it as a beginner paddler and have had many enjoyable paddles. This is my fourth year owning this kayak. I also had the seat cord break this year. One of the grommets it feeds through is rough and it frayed the cord. Delta is sending me a new cord and some sandpaper. I find that the kayak does not track well in cross winds. I really have to fight to keep it on course and I’m always the last to arrive at the destination. A lot of energy is expended constantly correcting the course.

We have and love 2 Delta 14s with rudder. They are great boats, light for their size, slice through the water while still being stable, and hold a ton of gear if you're kayak camping. But then we bought a pleasure cruiser powerboat that we say odd out kayak transport vessel to go to awesome water places but there only place to carry the kayaks is there top off the cruiser and the sides off the cruiser are narrow so the Delta 14s we're just a bit too heavy and too long to actually wrangle onto the cruiser. Since we love it Deltas, we decided to get there shorter, lighter, more stable Delta 10s and they are awesome! Easy to get on and off the J hooks straight down into the water (or lift back up). They are so stable we can actually step into them and sit down to launch. They track really straight but maneuver well. As expected, they are not as fast as the 14s, but they are just fun boats. Yes they make a little more water noise than the 14s, but we don't find it disturbing ort bargelike. Overall highly recommend.

My wife and I have been avid kayakers for years, we generally paddle small to medium rivers, lakes streams with a trip to bigger waters when the wind permits. I am in my late 60's , my wife isn't far behind. We were looking for a shorter lighter boat for trips we knew we had to portage and deal with beaver dams as we were finding our 14 ft 60 lb kayaks were getting hard to handle at times. The only truly light weight boat available to us was the delta. We decided on the 10ar which we have used this 2022 season. Overall I think the kayak will withstand all the dams and portaging we deal with ( although we find topside these boats may scratch easily ) At 37 lbs they are easy for us to handle. Cockpit is a good size, stable entry/exit. Seat is adequate ,we like the storage pod, easy to reach deck straps, rear dry compartment is a good size. Tracking is fair at best in our opinion ,can be a struggle to keep this boat going straight at times . ( we realize we are paddling a shorter boat) But out biggest complaint is all the noise . Over 4 kph, the 10ar plows into the water which rolls up the bow, splashes off to the side leaving a trail of air bubbles in it's wake. All the noisy water displacement ruins the paddling experience for us . We did not expect this kind of barge like performance from an expensive kayak as the delta.

It is cherry gloss red and appears inspired by formula one racing. It’s lighter than any of my friend’s kayaks making it easy to hoist onto the car, even with an arthritic shoulder. In the after, she’s comfortable , tracks straight and has ample storage. One issue: the cord holding my seat erect snapped on my first paddle. I’m 5’9” and 175lb. Having a single thin cord holding up the seat —while readily adjustable, —bad idea. In all, though, I adore this craft.
