Aukaneck Description

The Aukaneck is the first modern Greenland style paddle with exchangeable tips and ideal for any water condition. Aukaneck paddle sports a wider blade with a reinforced structure. It provides more power with each stroke, propelling a paddler faster and offering greater support in rough ocean conditions. The Aukaneck's light weight and ergonomic design make lengthy paddling excursions a breeze.

  • Exchangeable paddle tips provide extra protection for the fine tips of paddles
  • The Aukaneck has a wider teardrop shaped blade that provides for powerful strokes and braces well in rough ocean conditions
  • The shouldered grip design fits the natural contour of paddlers’ hands for comfort and control
  • Sharp paddle blade edges provide crisp and precise paddling
  • A shorter length (210cm) handles rough and shallow water with ease
  • The Aukaneck’s two-piece design breaks down quickly for easy transportation and storage on the kayak deck. The low-profile carbon fiber button release creates a sleek paddle shaft and never rusts
  • Exchangeable paddle tips made of durable polyamide material are available in both round and flat shapes and are interchangeable. Note that the Aukaneck paddle is wider and uses a unique size tip that does not fit the narrower Akiak, Nukilik and Nukilik Storm blades.

I have 2 wood greenland paddles and have just gotten my Gearlab Aukaneck paddle this month. I have the 210 cm size which is shorter than my wood paddles. I am enjoying my new paddle because it is very light, bright (orange) and comes apart into 2 pieces. My husband says he can see my paddle guite a distance away. I got the shouldered paddle because I like the positive feel of knowing where the angle of my blade is without looking. I am looking forward to learning more turning techniques and sculling with my new paddle. I also wanted the shorter paddle because I paddle often in windy areas so am able to catch less wind on my paddle. Thanks Gearlab!

Great paddle so far. I purchased the Aukaneck paddle directly from Gearlab. The Aukaneck does what it is designed to do as storm paddle but is also excellent for practicing rolling. It is light and easy to use. I've recently taken it out in rougher conditions on Eklutna Lake, a glacial lake in South Central Alaska. The lake is about 8 miles long with higher winds typically in the long direction of the lake, as a result, the waves can build and are sometimes challenging. In those conditions, the Aukaneck provided more power, better bracing, and was more responsive than my primary paddle, the Akiak, also a Gearlab paddle. Both paddles have shoulders, which help guide paddle positioning, which I find useful. I'm surprised that I've been able to order and get products from Gearlab faster than other products ordered from the lower 48 states. Great service. Their paddles are expensive but worth every penny.

So far so great! I received my paddle several days early, just in time for some nice whitecapped wave kayaking. The ease from bracing to paddle and back, ease of dragging your stroke, and ability to use the entire length of the paddle for so many different positions makes this clean design a swiss army knife for any condition. It also stores quite well in my confined VW camper quarters compared to traditional wide-blade paddles. You get what you pay for and that's alright by me.

Rolling became an instinctive movement with using my new Aukaneck the 1st time. This paddle is just like an extension of my body itself and slices water with little impedance, which make draw strokes effortless, while provides enough power equivalent to an euro blade paddle. Would be definitely my favorite paddle going forward.

The Aukaneck is designed for surfing type activities. I'm a large paddler weighting about 230 lb.'s and paddle a expedition type kayak that is over18' in length. Often I will have 150 lb.'s or more pounds of gear, food and water in the kayak. When the ocean waves get in the 3-6' category and the winds are in excess of 10 knots, I reach for my Aukaneck paddle as it provides me a lot more power to control my kayak. I love the extra power that I get out of this paddle.

I just received my Aukaneck paddle and am looking forward to trying it out in the surf. It is very light weight and has a nice feel to it. I've had an Akiak for several years and am looking forward to the same high quality from my Aukaneck.
