I am endorsed by the ACA in Traditional Skills. Mostly what this translates to is knowledge of culture and paddling techniques with a skinny stick and rolls –lot sof them.
I am 5’3” tall and need a low volume kayak for paddling control in surf and rolling. The NDK Echo is all that and so much more. The cockpit was moved forward from the Pilgrim and Pilgrim Expedition making catching waves effortless. The forward placement also positioned the knee bumps at the ideal location. The low back deck and emptying of water in the kayak when immersed is legendary. Despite the narrow hull, the kayak has amazing initial and secondary stability and edge control. The Echo has reduced rocker from its predecessor, the Pilgrim and does not stall or squat at speed.
This is a tremendously high performance, high fun factor sea kayak . The NDK Echo breaks all the illusions and preconceived rules for smaller paddler kayaks. Big kudos to Eila Wilkinson and Nigel Dennis on this awesome kayak design.

The Echo, designed by Nigel Foster, is the bigger of his 2 "day" boats, i have been paddling the Shadow and the Echo compliments the larger boat well, the initial stability is light but the secondry stability is good, the kayak has little rocker so the tracking is good with no tendency to weathercock, this is also a fast kayak. the trade off being that it is not as manouverable as you would expect for a short kayak, unless you lean turn and then it turns well, cockpit is comfy for a 6 footer, kayak gives a dry ride in chop and surfs well, also a sexy looker !!
