Trip Overview

Easy paddle for kayaks for paddle boards. It's about 3 miles, pretty shallow at points, and is a pleasant trip. Put in is past a Dunkin' Donuts right off of I-20. There's a county-maintained gravel parking lot and trail down to the water. Take out is at Porterdale Yellow River park and is incredibly easy. There are actually steps leading out of the water. Be sure to take out at this point because it's the last safe takeout before the dam at the porterdale mill.

Portage Notes

First portage is dependent on water depth. There's a very sharp curve with a small, sandy (kinda) beach. After that curve, there is a lot of brush and other downed objects in the water, so you'll get pushed to the right and up onto some shallow sand. The second portage is shortly before Brown Bridge Rd. There are two pipes running across the river that are right at the surface. You'll have to get out and lift your kayak/sup/tube/etc. over these pipes and get back in on the other side.
