Yamhill River in Oregon

Trip Overview

This trip was planned for several weeks. We ran this route two years ago (but later in the summer). This time we anticipated higher water levels.

A big change this year over two years ago was the tremendous amount of trees that fell into the river (due to the fierce storm we had over the winter). On a couple of occasions the trees blocked the passage of our canoes and we had to work around them.

I might add that if you want to go on this route, make sure you have an experienced back person because the trees have created some fun twists and challenges for small craft. Trip took 5 hours.

We saw some osprey, ducks and even one bald eagle. Otherwise no other mammals (perhaps we were too loud).

Good April/ May trip when levels are higher.

Outfitting:

We were four canoes and one kayak.

Directions:

We put in at Sheridan bridge near IGA store.

Take out point was Bellevue Bridge on Amity Hwy.
