This is the famous Ghost River section of the Wolf River. It's a 45-60 min drive from Memphis and it is absolutely stunning! There are some "strainers" for the first couple of miles, but then there is a light current. At the time, there was only one section that require portage. Most of the strainers you could go under if you could lay down flat in your kayak. Canoes would probably require more exiting.
