Trip Overview

Put in: Sauk Prairie Canoe Landing Take Out: Buena Vista Boat Landing Two nights sandbar camping. Mostly flat water. Peak river level while on the trip was 12454 CFS. This is our last trip with our old Coleman Sun Dome Tent. Post trip we reassessed our sun protection situation. Due to the river's width it's very exposed and sun screen is simply ineffective. There are pockets of shade available, but it's not always possible to establish a camp site in these locations. It's highly advisable to plan to bring some sort of shade of your own (an umbrella, tarp, screen tent, etc). Further down river the biting gnats and flies got pretty bad. Again, best to plan ahead. Bug net, permethrin treated clothing, and if possible citronella candles.

Safety Notes

North of Spring Green there were still many campers celebrating the 4th of July 20 days later until well into the night with fireworks.

Gear Notes

3 paddlers with: WS Sealution XL, Dagger Magellan, Perception Carolina.

Conditions

Hot and sunny. We started early, pulled off the river onto shaded island or banks during mid day. For a few hours, then started again once the peak temps lowered. River level was moderately high and sandbars were somewhat crowded until nearly the take out point.
