Willow River in Wisconsin

Trip Overview

While the Willow river is beautiful, secluded with lots of wildlife, I must say it was unfortunate that there isn't better clearance for paddling. The beginning is pristine but you soon find yourself getting out of your boat because of strainers that block entire section of river.

We expected 3-4 portages because of a previous post and stopped counting at 15 portages. What should have taken 2.5 hours just to get to 100 Street bridge ended up taking 5 hours. Because we had parked down at Cty Road A bridge- we had to run get the car.

In the end - I would say it's a beautiful river and would only try this trip if you like portages and plan an ENTIRE day for paddling. It would have taken 9 hours just to get to County Road A.
