Willimantic River in Connecticut

Trip Overview

The lower Willimantic is a Class 2.2 fast water stream. Put in below the Eagleville Lake Dam below Route 275. It is a 5.5 mile run to Route 6 take out point in Columbia, CT.

The river is shaded most of the way with some open meadows here and there. Check the Coventry river gauge to be sure that is above 3.5' in order to make the trip more fun. The higher the gauge the better it is.

The river is about 40' wide and twists and turns. There are some debris dams to be careful of and one sharp turn with a strainer to avoid. This river is good to learn to read white water as it is forgiving if you make a mistake.
